A message from Leslie McClain:

Meijer Madness is basically a time for students to buy last-minute school supplies and get free stuff in the process, but that description doesn't do it justice. There's karaoke, DDR, a rock wall, and countless other things to do, but more importantly, this is a chance for us as UCO to make connections with people on campus, invite them to UCO, and possibly even tell them how God has worked in our lives. My first introduction to UCO was at Meijer Madness my freshman year.  The genuineness of the people I met from UCO and their boldness and persistence in talking about faith encouraged me to stick around.

Meijer Madness runs from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am, with buses running from campus to Meijer every 10 minutes or so. It would be really great if a bunch of us could go and be bold in making those first connections. If you're interested in going, join us for some prayer beforehand at 8:30 pm at 716 Catherine Street. From there, we'll split up into smaller groups and head to the buses.

I may be biased, but I think this is an awesome opportunity to live out Christ's work and draw people in. Plus, we have an awful lot of fun doing it. Hope to see you there!

Actually it's not kickball, exactly.  It's a variation on big-base kickbal called "Mattball".  Here's a message from David Williamson:

This is going to be Epic.  If you weren’t sure how you were going to spend your Labor Day afternoon, I have solved your problem.  And this is even more than a kickball game.

One of the most visible signs that U of M students are losing their minds diverse. There's a group out there for every cause, creed, and (nut)case. But we'll be out there too (we're not weird, we're just.. different). This is a great opportunity to talk to freshmen and other curious types, as well as get a bunch of free stuff from other groups. It's NOT a great opportunity to try to get to class on time.

Email me (jdhughes84@gmail.com) if you want to signup for a shift to get out there and talk to the newbies!

Think battle - Think rotten tomatoes - Think darkness and woods - Think capture the flag, a bonfire, and good times.

To properly prepare ourselves for the spiritual battle before us, we (the guys Men of UCO) will engage in a physical battle of epic proportions, involving darkness (metaphor?), backwoods, tomatoes, and a mild level of pain and physical exertion.

We'll meet up at 716 Catherine St , and head down to the battleground (west of Ann Arbor) to meet up with some other guys from UCO in Lansing. Then, capture the flag meets a half-ripened tomato to the face. TomatoWar08.

A yearly tradition of epic proportions, this showdown of EMU folks vs. UCO-UM is a highlight for any dude that has participated. It's the stuff of legends.

If the OSU-UM game turns out to be at 12 instead of 3:30, we can reschedule this.

We still have zero serious injuries to date (God be praised). This is gonna be sweet so tell your friends (not too many ringers, though) and come on out to play some pigskin.

Also, this isn't going to be co-ed, sorry ladies.

An annual tradition - an extended time to seek the Lord and hold vigil.  Yes, it's a tad longer, but it has always been a blessed time in the past, and I'm sure this year will be no exception.

"I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth." (Isaiah 62:6-7)

If you were wondering, then yes - we’re doing these again this term - so you should come and bring a friend and an act/talent/performance if you’ve got one in mind.  As usual we’re looking for some good stuff - but we’ll take mediocre too! :).  I trust you guys can provide one of those two options.  But yeah, it’ll be just like old times: coffee, music, entertainment, a video, etc.  I’m pumped – you should be too. Let Will (willcan@umich.edu) know if you’ve got some kind of performance.

Our series of hospitality dinners for Asian international students continues!  If you're an international student, or want to bring an international student with you, then you're invited to join us for dinner this Friday.  This time our culinary journey takes us to the Malayan peninsula, where we will indulge in such delicacies as beef rendang and coconut chicken.  RSVP to Joseph Mathias: josephgmathias@gmail.com, or 734-330-7742 if you're interested in helping with shopping or cooking.

If you’re interested in going to a Lord’s Day Celebration and awesome dinner at the Brinks (UCO alum family), which you darn well should be, then RSVP to Kathleen (kmeaw@umich.edu) before Thursday – Amy Brink cooks the best bread these lips have ever tasted, and the rest of her food is even better – anyway, all that to say, you should totally go.  So yeah – shoot kathleen an email and get in ‘while the cookin’s hot’, as it were.

The title says it all – we’ll eat good food, hear a sharing from a good brother, and then pray with each other.  I’ll send more details out later – Iron sharpening iron - this is gonna be good.  Email John (johnhug@umich.edu) if you've got questions about it.

This Friday we will release some of that pent up stress on your brothers and sisters in the form of a round, rubber ball. Bring 70 of your friends and zero dollars and you'll be all set! Dressing up is optional, but Rambo-like attire is encouraged. When we tire of playing dodgeball (as if that will happen), we can hang out and play indoor soccer, fill-or-bust, Settlers .. or whatever. It'll be a blast! If you want a ride, let John know. The Williamsons are opening their house for a UCO Seder, for the third year in a row!  For those who have never done a Seder before, it is an adapted version of the typical Jewish Passover feast.  Christians pray these prayers in the light of Christ, our Paschal Lamb - I find it to be a very rich set of prayers (and the food is also great).

The grand finale is upon us - let's go out with a bang (proverbially!).  This is a great UCO tradition, celebrating the closing of another year and all the Lord’s blessings to us. We’ll pray, have a chance to honor our graduates, and send people out for the summer, all the while feasting on the most scrumptious food available, and enjoying excellent company. There may (read: will) be some dancing afterward as well.  Basically you won't want to miss this.  Since we’re gathering to honor what the Lord has done in our midst, we ask that all dress 'nicely' (guys: dress in semi-formal ties).  If you want to help in some fashion, let me (jdhughes84@gmail.com) know.
